Presentation information for students
Flash talks are very short presentations. You will have no more than three minutes to explain your project in a clear and concise way to those who may be unfamiliar with your field of research. A single, static slide is permitted and will be displayed at the start of your talk. No sound, video or props are allowed. When you reach the 2:30 mark, a timekeeper will hold up a sign. A buzzer will sound at three minutes. Aim to finish before the buzzer sounds.
Two awards will be presented.
The Distinguished Flash Talk award ($200) will be judged by Dane County Board staff and UW-Madison faculty based on whether the information was presented clearly and conveyed the significance of the project to the Dane County Board of Supervisors.
The People’s Choice Flash Talk award ($100) will be judged by the audience based on whether the information was presented clearly and left the audience wanting to know more.
We know many students worked in teams. A group or a single person may present. In either case, the award amount remains the same, as does the time limit. All awards will be processed through the UW-Madison Bursar’s Office.

Poster session presentations
UniverCity Year staff are preparing posters about all the classes involved in Dane County projects. Students are needed to stand near the posters, talk about the projects and answer any questions attendees might have. It’s that easy! This is your chance to make connections across the campus and in the community in a friendly and informal way.
