Alfonso Morales (PhD Sociology Northwestern) is Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is originally from rural New Mexico with roots in family farming, there and in west Texas. He is a researcher, advocate, and practitioner/consultant on food systems and public markets. His scholarship focuses on entrepreneurship, economic development, food distribution and food justice, and law and society.

Alfonso is currently the principal or co-principal investigator for the Community and Regional Food Systems project, Metrics and Indicators for Impact (a suite of tools for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on local foods data), Institute for Clinical and Transitional Research for farm2hospital, and was the food systems lead for the Wisconsin Obesity Prevention Initiative. He founded the Foodglossary webpage, and he co-founded and currently co-hosts (with Gregg Kettles) openair.org, a webpage on street vendors and public markets.
