UniverCity Year Village of Waunakee

Waunakee is a village located in Dane County that is home to about 14,000 residents. It earned its name from its Native American origin, translating to “fair and pleasant valley” just north of Madison (Wanaki). The unique name also makes the village the only Waunakee to exist in the world.

Today, Waunakee is known for its beautiful parks, antique shopping, and charming downtown. They partnered with UniverCity Year 2020-2023 to continue to develop areas like social justice, racial equity, and inclusion and community civility.
